THRASH FEST VII
A while back I posted here about doing Thrash Fest VII in the summer of 2007. I've decided not to move forward with this for a number of reasons. A lot of people have been asking so I'm going to give some explanation.

I started doing the Thrash Fest in Minneapolis in 2000 after the last of the Old Barn Punk Fests which had been going down in Western Wisconsin each summer. In those days there weren't too many big festival shows and it was great to get a lot of good bands together for a big show. Havoc was an up and coming label and was riding high on a burst of new music crust punk and hardcore thrash and I wanted to spotlight the new bands and the energy in the scene by throwing a big show with bands on the label. Things have changed quite a bit in the last few years. Now there are quite a few fests each year, and many of those are three or four day extravaganzas with dozens of bands. Many of the bands Havoc started out with have broken up and instead of promoting new bands, the label has been focused more on established bands and promoting bands from Scandinavia in the USA. As a result of these factors the idea of a fest doesn't seem like it would bring the level of urgency and excitement as the early Thrash Fests did. And lastly, I can't ignore the falling attendence. The first several fests drew 500-600 people. The last few drew under 400. The expenses invovled in setting up such a fest require a big turn out to cover costs and keep ticket prices reasonable. I don't want to engage in such a level of risk unless I'm certain all the costs will be covered and it's going to be something memorable that people will want to go to. That is to say, the idea of "fest business as usual" is not my goal, I want to something that's really going to stand out. That said, I'm interested in doing a festival in the future, but only when things line up to make it really top notch.
